Love is in the Air (and the Trees) in Central PA! šŸ¦ā¤ļø

Spring has officially sprung in the Keystone State, and our local House Finches are putting on quite the show. These photos capture a beautiful pair right in the middle of their courtship dance.

Notice the vibrant raspberry-red crown and breast on the male—that’s nature’s way of saying he’s ready for the season! Meanwhile, the female (the streaky brown beauty) is keeping a close eye on his displays. In the world of House Finches, it’s all about the "butterfly flight" and showing off those bright colors to prove they’re the best mate in the neighborhood.

What to Watch For in Your Backyard:

*Courtship Feeding:** Keep an eye out for the male bringing seeds to the female—it’s a classic sign they’ve paired up!

*The Song:** Listen for the male’s long, warbling song ending in a husky wheer—he’s singing his heart out to defend his territory and impress his lady.

*Nesting:** They love nesting in conifers, hanging planters, or even ivy on your porch.

It’s a busy time for our feathered neighbors here in Central Pennsylvania. Have you spotted any House Finch pairs at your feeders yet this week?
