Wonder in the Woods

There is something deeply humbling about stepping away from the rush of daily life and finding stillness beneath the forest canopy. In a recent outdoor reflection, a hunter sat quietly on a mild, 70-degree October afternoon during archery season, watching and waiting patiently with crossbow in hand in Wildlife Management Unit 4D. While the initial goal was spotting wildlife and hoping for a good shot at a deer, the hours spent waiting revealed a much richer reward: the quiet opportunity to witness the wonder of nature firsthand.

Too often, we rush through our routines without pausing to appreciate the natural world around us. Stepping foot into God's woods is a profound reminder of the intricate beauty He has fashioned, from the shifting afternoon light filtering through the trees to the quiet movements of wildlife in their element. Every breath of fresh air and rustle of leaves is an invitation to slow down, marvel at creation, and cultivate true gratitude for the privilege of simply being there.

Whether you return home with a harvest or simply with renewed peace of mind, time spent immersed in creation is never wasted. As the day drew to a close, the hunter perfectly captured the sentiment of the experience: "It's been a glorious day in God's woods. Amen to that". Let us always remember to be thankful for every chance we get to walk into the woods and bear witness to what God has created.
